Gorgeous view!  Up on the mountain in Arosa, Switzerland.

Wanderweg-Zumikon

Walking the Wanderweg…this series of pictures gives you an idea of the winding paths throughout Switzerland.  The Wanderweg path this day took us thorugh farmland, into forest and to a wonderful stream.

Castle Meersburg on Bodensee

A highlight of our trip was to the  Meersburg Castle.  We took a ferry across the Bodensee (largest lake in Europe) and arrived in Meersburg.  We toured the castle which was built in 635 AD!  Amazing! There were many twists and turns, it was cold, and without the lighting that was added years later, it would have been VERY dark!

These pictures show the entrance to the castle, the knights room to keep watch, the kitchen, and of course the room filled with armor and swords of the time period.

It was so interesting to actually be in a building that was created almost 1500 years ago.  The kids loved it…they especially loved the well in the middle of the castle…the picture of that came out too dark for this blog:)

Swiss snails and gardens

On another hike checking out the village of Zumikon.  We spotted the largest snail we had seen yet!

The other two photos in this set are of the gardens.  In Switzerland, if you live in an apt or house with no yard, you can rent out land and have your own garden.  I am not sure of all of the details of this, but the gardens had small sheds and wonderful bounties!

Ferns in Switzerland

Thought these huge “ferns” were beautiful…captured the kids in them on a walk along the Wanderweg.

Swimming in Switzerland

Swimming in Lake Zurich…beautiful! Swimming in the local pool…the kids all went off the 5 meter board pictured here. And some guy showing off his feet:)

Walking in Switzerland

Here is another hike.   The hills and farmland were inter-twined with the villages.  Saw a lovely little butterfly.  And the last pic here is of our apartment (the one with the flowers:)

Switzerland-Our Trip in Pictures

Taking a break to enjoy the view!  Stopping along the way to talk to the many, many snails!  And I wonder if this green grasshopper is wanted on this corn stalk?  We sure enjoyed seeing him!

Continuing the Hike

As we went on with our rainy hike, we passed by many cows.  Lovely girls, resting in the meadows.  We passed through wheat fields and eventually, at the top of the hill, the WWI memorial for the soilders who chose to fight from Switzerland.  The sculpture is a huge eternal flame.
