We went for our first official spring bike ride yesterday.  My sons (and husband:) found many new garter snakes:)  The snakes were loving the warm weather…and were piled up in the cracks of the pavement along the bike paths…toasty warm!!!

My eldest son captured these wonderful shots!

  1. Woah, those are some nice pictures!! I have not seen a snake in so long probably the last time was when I went to the zoo! None-the-less it’s a bit scary what you might find one of those cracks :s

Anyhow keep up the great work 🙂

  2. Hi pKay!
Thanks for the post:) It is always a bit un-nerving to see snakes to me… but I find them fascinating…once my brain slows and I realize I am not in any danger!

I will visit your site to say hi:)

  3. Hi Susan,

Beautiful ! I am cautious with snakes but they don’t frighten me the way they do my hubby. Poor guy will hurt himself getting out of range.

That one between the rocks is so cute!

Haven’t seen any this year, we usually have a garden snake that takes up residence in the potting shed.

The drawback with most snakes is just not being able to determine what kind they are.

When my boys were small we had this little green garter snake that lived on the fence all summer. The boys became very fond of it, and could even pick it up and play with it. They are harmless.

Your blog just keeps getting better!

    Happy Spring!

  4. Love the pics! What a great job he did, especially the one poking his head up through the crack. Priceless. National Geographic would pay for that photo!

    Fun, fun……

  5. The first photo is really great. Snake peek-a-boo!

  6. Hi Bea! The snakes were lively and wonderful:) Good to see you here…thank you for your kind words of encouragement!

Di…thanks for the compliment! Perhaps mr. O can get his work published by National Goeographic and have college covered!

Peek-a-boo…the snakes are back in hiding in the rain today, Bo! Thanks for stopping by:)

  7. Great Snakes alive! It must be Spring! What a wonderful gift of nature you all experienced that day. Its probably time to wander in the woods and lift some logs to see what salamanders, newts and toads might be found. Nice camera work, Owen.

  8. Oh yeah! Salamanders!!! The other favorite around our house:)
    Thanks for the post:)

  9. I like the snake popping it’s head up pic 🙂

  10. Me too:)
