What is your animal totem?

I dreamed a few nights ago of a friend of mine (who happens to be highly intuitive…an astrologer). She said in the dream many things…but the one thought that truly stuck out was about a frozen mouse at the top of my animal totem.

(I love to interpret my dreams…and many of my morning meditations are around dreams and tarot).

I drew the mouse in my journal and created the image you see above based on that drawing. I also did some looking around to learn about mice. The key thoughts that resonate with me about mice were…

New beginnings (Native American South quadrant on the medicine wheel)
Giving Birth (mice are prolific…I am also creatively prolific)
Resourcefulness
Determination

There are other thoughts that “mouse” bring up for me.  However, the ideas above stand out as resonating with where I am right now in my life.. Mouse will be my totem for a while as I move into my new “story”.  As my life shifts and changes with the seasons.

What is your animal totem?

What one simple creative thing are you doing today?

I have to remind myself that it is important to do one creative thing each day.  It can be something as simple as having the camera along on a quick walk with the dog.  This can be just the thing to inspire my creative mind.

Noticing how the light shines.  Noticing how quiet it is.  Noticing what it feels like to breathe in a big breath of fresh air!  All of these small moments shift my busy mind and calm it down.   To notice.   To feel.  To reflect.

What is one simple thing you are doing today to inspire your own creativity?  To shift your busy mind….?  (read more…)

Waiting Time

Creating my schedule  with a family allows for a lot of time waiting.  I try to locate a great place to plop myself when I need to be “on call” for picking up and dropping off…and those 45 minutes in between get put to good use.  Usually, I read.

There are many ways I can spend this time…but reading seems to give me the boost I need to re-connect back with myself.  To learn a bit…or to go off into another world, reading does this for me.

How do you plan out your “waiting” time?

Getting out there!

My husband and I sing as a vocal duo called WoodSong.  We have a gig once a month at a lovely bookstore/coffee shop/wine bar.  It has been a joy to work as a team performing the music we love.

We are taking time in the next few months to record.  A HUGE undertaking…but I am really looking forward to this next step as a musician/singer.  Hey…we may even add some songs that we wrote ourselves J

What are you up to that inspires your creative journey?

How do you work through change?

I was just talking to a friend of mine.  We were discussing the weather.  I know, I know…the weather?  Really?  Well, yes.  The drastic ups and downs of the temperatures, the snow, then rain, then freezing, then warm…these crazy changes, we are really noticing are having HUGE effects of in our bodies.

We decided we would like to put in our “bid” of how the weather should go.  Yep…we want to control it…HA!  Who should we contact?

Well, we will just have to live with it.  The weather changes…we must be flexible and adapt.  However, in our lives, there ARE ways where we have free will and choice.  And this is where we CAN create change.

Who should you contact?  Your inner self…(read more…)

Hibernation

That is Hannah…can you see her there?  Hunched over in the snow?  We are out walking. I LOVE the winters in Michigan…and the Lake Effect Snow that fills the long wintery days.

Hannah is pulling the snow out from between her paws.  She LOVES the snow…runs and runs and runs in it.  Pure dog joy!  But then, she needs to stop and get the snowballs out from between her dog-toes.

These are the days I bundle up and climb out of my hibernation.  I enjoy the hush of the snow…the grey quiet that goes on forever.  The white of the flakes…it is energizing to me.  Then, I appreciate getting back inside…and going within.

How do you hibernate?  Or do you?

Spinning through the Scary Bits

feet photo(151) photo(152)

Putting on shoes…dancing…taking time to create. I like to let my mind wander while I create new things that give me insights into my life. From this “dancing” or spinning I call it…I have created artwork that adds color and wonder to my life as I grow and change. There is a tiny voice that still wants to say “you are not an artist”…and a societal pull that wants to support that…and this is where the edge always enters the game for me.

So…in order to change the story of the negative voices (that does not serve me and my purpose) I dance and create anyway…dancing away the voices and allowing in the momentum that shows up in color on the page.

This has allowed me to write and write and write on my experiences…bringing together many years of thoughts and ideas. I have moved through these fears and voices by taking physical action. And have put the words into an order that will become my focus for the next year.

The voices are still there…that lizard brain talking itself through the scary bits. But if I keep on dancing, creating and side-stepping…I am finding my new story beginning to emerge…

Getting on the Mat

OK…getting on the mat to practice yoga each morning.  This centers me.  Sometimes, I am cranky and just refuse to do it.  But…I know how good I feel each time I practice.  Even 15-20 minutes…short and sweet.  Keeping a “movement” routine in my day.

How do you create your morning ritual?

What am I an expert in?

Homework…What am I an expert in?OK…so I wrote all of the suggestions for word replacements that might “soften” the word expert for me: gifts, specialty, passions, roots, owning knowledge, energy (thank you all!)

Then I wrote my specialties: teaching, arts integration, blogging, journaling, planning projects, singing

And I pulled out the colors of paint that spoke to me…while thinking of the word meanings…and here is my image 🙂
